The Japanese Pokémon 30th Celebration set has four products: the Expansion Pack BOX, a 20-pack booster box (list price ¥7,200), the Premium Deck Set (¥6,200), the FUTURISTIC BOX (¥27,500) and the Card Sets (¥1,200 each). As of November 6, 2026, shops buy all four above list price. But the set has turned from an anniversary release into a lottery for Mew: cards you can realistically pull, like the SARs, have collapsed, and only cards you can't, like the RGB Mew, are rising. We see no reason to buy boxes at market price. Buy singles, open only boxes you got at list price, and leave the SARs alone until the restocks have run their course.

On the morning of November 4, this question went up on Yahoo! Chiebukuro: ["I got a 30th anniversary box. I can't decide whether to sell it shrink-wrapped for around 20,000 yen or open it and chase rares."](https://detail.chiebukuro.yahoo.co.jp/qa/question%5Fdetail/q13332573598) It got 2 answers, and both said to sell it sealed. We agree. That looks like a decision about one box, but behind it sits a bigger problem: the price of the box has come apart from the price of what's inside.

List prices come from the official site. Buyback prices are compiled by [Torecamap](https://torecamap.co.jp/column/celebration/).

The shrink-wrapped Expansion Pack BOX buys back at 2.6x list price. A gap that wide draws crowds to the lotteries and raises fears about scalping. On September 15, 2026, the day before release, Mercari announced a [ban on listing sealed packs, BOXes and Card Sets](https://tinpanblog.com/mercari-pokemon-card-30th-celebration-listing-ban-guide/). The ban only covered sealed product, though, so opened singles could still be listed. That distinction shaped the market that followed.

## 30th Celebration hits

The card the official campaign put up front was Mew ex in the new FUR rarity. Torecamap puts Mew ex FUR's release-day shop selling price at ¥24,300, and early hit lists led with it. RGB appears nowhere on the official product and event pages. On release day, the RGB Mew was [an unconfirmed rumor](https://tinpanblog.com/pokemon-card-30th-celebration-cards-price-where-to-buy-guide/).

As people opened packs, the rumor proved true, and Mew R hit a shop selling price of ¥1,190,000 on release day. Since then, talk about this set has been about whether you can pull a Mew. Here are the top hits as of November 6, 2026.

In the 7 weeks after release, Mew ex FUR's shop selling price fell from ¥24,300 to ¥6,730\. Add up Torecamap's selling prices and, between release day and November 6, the 2 FURs lost 73% and the 10 SARs lost 55%, while the 30 reprints lost only 12%. The high prices moved from the FUR the official campaign promoted to the RGB Mew it never mentioned.

## 30th Celebration box buyback and contents value

So what are the contents of an Expansion Pack BOX worth? The official side doesn't publish pull rates, but opening reports across sites broadly agree. Here is what you get using Torecamap's estimated pull rates and November 6 buyback prices.

| Slot | Estimated pulls per BOX | Average buyback per card | Value per BOX |
| ----------------------------- | ----------------------------- | ------------------------ | ------------- |
| RGB Mew, 3 types | 1 per 154.3 BOXes | ¥508,333 | ¥3,294 |
| 30th-style reprints, 30 types | 2 cards | ¥1,628 | ¥3,257 |
| SAR, 10 types | 1 card | ¥2,305 | ¥2,305 |
| FUR, 2 types | 1 card, about 18% of the time | ¥3,975 | ¥735 |
| AR 20 types, RR 10 types | 9 cards total | | ¥366 |
| **Total** | | | **¥9,957** |

Add up the contents of one BOX at buyback prices and you get ¥9,957 on average, which is ¥8,793 below the ¥18,750 buyback price of a shrink-wrapped BOX. The average contents can't explain 47% of that price. We read the gap as a premium from two things: the hope that a Mew is in the box, and the shortage of boxes.

![Buyback price of a shrink-wrapped Expansion Pack BOX at ¥18,750 compared with average contents buyback value of ¥9,957](https://snapholo.com/news/content/images/2026/11/pokemon-30th-celebration-set-guide-body-2.jpg)

Even the ¥9,957 average beats what most people will open. A third of it comes from the RGB Mew, and close to 20% comes from just two reprints, Charizard and Lugia. More than half the average rests on 5 cards that most people never pull. That's why we call this set a lottery for Mew.

## Price moves after restocks

Scarcity was holding that premium up, so as scarcity eases the box price falls.

The buyback price of a shrink-wrapped BOX climbed from ¥17,000 on release day to ¥24,867 on October 23, 2026\. The trend turned right after that. That was the week people began paying for lottery wins from entries taken in early October: [GEO's purchase deadline was October 24 to 25](https://www.inside-games.jp/article/2026/09/28/188420.html), and [Rakuten Books started sales on October 29](https://torecamap.co.jp/column/celebration/). By November 4 the shrink-wrapped BOX bought back at ¥17,875, down 28% in the 12 days from October 23.

![Shrink-wrapped BOX buyback price over time: ¥17,000 on release day, ¥24,867 on Oct. 23, ¥17,875 on Nov. 4, ¥18,750 on Nov. 6](https://snapholo.com/news/content/images/2026/11/pokemon-30th-celebration-set-guide-body-3.jpg)

We attribute this drop to the restock lottery wins, because the start of the fall lines up with when winners were buying.

Restocks hit cards differently. If 1,000 more Expansion Pack BOXes get opened, the estimated pull rates add 1,000 SARs, 2,000 reprints and about 185 FURs to the market, but only about 6 RGB Mews. Winners can sell an unopened box only to buyback shops or SNKRDUNK, while an opened box's singles can go straight to Mercari. We think the Mercari ban ended up increasing selling pressure on pullable cards like the SARs.

[Card Rush's buyback prices](https://altema.jp/pokemoncard/celebrationcollection) show the same thing over a month. Of the top 30 buyback cards, 23 fell in the month to November 6 and only 6 rose. Mew ex SAR dropped from ¥6,000 to ¥4,000, and Jirachi ex SAR from ¥2,400 to ¥1,300\. Going the other way, Mew R rose from ¥550,000 to ¥650,000 and Mew G from ¥350,000 to ¥500,000.

Leaving aside a low-priced Misty, the 6 risers have something in common. The 3 RGB cards are too rare to pull on purpose. Charizard and Lugia are, on pull odds alone, not far from the SARs (a given reprint comes about 1 per 15 BOXes, a given SAR about 1 per 10 BOXes). The difference is the buyer. People who remember the Charizard from the first set don't open boxes. They come for the single. On Torecamap's buyback prices, Charizard fell from ¥26,500 on September 22 to ¥13,500 on October 23, then recovered to ¥14,500 in the middle of the restocks. A card with buyers who don't open boxes tends to hold its price through a restock.

So "cards you can't pull" come in two kinds: cards with very low odds, and cards that people who never open packs buy as singles.

## 4 common beliefs about the 30th Celebration set

### BOX opening profit and loss

We ran 200,000 simulations with the estimated pull rates above, and the median buyback total for one Expansion Pack BOX came to ¥5,100\. The chance that a box's buyback total beats the ¥7,200 list price is 28%, and the chance it beats the ¥18,750 shrink-wrapped buyback price is 7%. [Altema's separate calculation](https://altema.jp/pokemoncard/celebrationcollection) (29.70% above list price as of October 21) and its editors' own 4-BOX opening (buyback totals of ¥3,650 to ¥9,200) came out close to ours. Open a box you could sell for ¥18,750 and, at the median, you end up about ¥13,650 worse off than selling it sealed. Chasing a Mew is worse still: on Torecamap's estimate, pulling the one you want yourself costs about ¥3,330,000 even at list price.

### Japanese, English and Korean edition prices

30th Celebration launched worldwide at the same time, which makes it a rare set where you can compare language editions over the same period. Here they are side by side at SnapHolo reference prices (ungraded).

| Card | Japanese | English | Korean |

At SnapHolo reference prices, the English Mew ex SAR and Gengar ex SAR sit at 1.7x to 2.2x their Japanese versions. The English edition has [no booster box in the official product lineup, and its pack makeup is different](https://samuraiswordtokyo.com/blogs/news/30th-celebration-english-vs-japanese-card-differences). We think the Japanese edition, with one SAR per BOX, simply has more supply and is cheaper for it. For both Mew ex SAR and Gengar ex SAR, the Japanese edition is the cheaper buy.

Korean RGB Mew prices, meanwhile, run at around 30% of the Japanese ones. Korean trades are few, so treat these as rough figures, but the RGB Mew's high prices haven't reached the Korean edition.

### PSA 10 multiples and the grading decision

At SnapHolo prices, a PSA 10 Mew ex FUR is ¥73,000, or 10.4x ungraded, and a PSA 10 Lugia is ¥170,000, or 8.5x ungraded. Those multiples are high, but sales are few and these are early prices from the first 7 weeks after release. [PSA Japan's Standard tier](https://www.psacard.co.jp/services/tradingcardgrading) costs ¥9,980 per card with an estimated turnaround of 100 business days, so anything you send now comes back next spring, by which time there will be more PSA 10s around.

Grading has its own misses, so make the call on what the card fetches if it stops at PSA 9\. Lugia costs about ¥30,000 once you add the grading fee to its ¥20,000 ungraded price, and its ¥50,000 PSA 9 price clears that. Mew ex FUR costs about ¥17,000 with the fee on top of its ¥6,999 ungraded price, so its ¥10,000 PSA 9 price is a loss. The RGB Mews have PSA 9 prices at or below their ungraded prices. [Torecamap's opening article](https://torecamap.co.jp/column/celebration/) also mentions off-center cards, so it's safer not to assume a PSA 10.

### Long-term holds on anniversary products

This is the strongest counterargument: "Look at the 25th anniversary. [A sealed 25th Anniversary Collection BOX buys back at ¥43,000 shrink-wrapped](https://torecamap.co.jp/column/pokeca-box-kaitori/). Hold the 30th and the same thing will happen."

We don't rule out long-term value. The problem is the order of events. The 25th Anniversary Collection came out in October 2021, and its shrink-wrapped buyback price reached ¥20,500 in January 2026, more than 4 years later. The 30th Expansion Pack BOX is already at a ¥18,750 buyback price in week 7, close to the same level. The boxes differ in size and list price, so it isn't a clean comparison, but you're still paying up front for years of gains. And even that 25th Anniversary Collection fell from ¥53,500 on September 11, 2026 to ¥43,000 a week later on September 18\. Anniversary boxes go down too.

Holding is a fine strategy. Buying at market price in the middle of restocks and then holding is the wrong order. A box costs less once restocks end and the premium shrinks.

## 30th Celebration buying decisions

**Buy.** If you want Charizard or Lugia, buy the singles now. They held up through the restocks, so there's little reason to wait. If you're after the full-art Umbreon ex mf-044, you don't need the box: Torecamap's shop selling price is ¥15,800, cheaper than the ¥19,999 selling price for the deck set on Google Shopping on November 6\. If you win a lottery at list price, buy without a second thought.

**Don't buy.** Skip BOXes at market price. Avoid shrink-wrapped boxes sold by individuals too, for the reason [one Chiebukuro answer gave: "It's ordinary mass-produced shrink wrap, so it's weak proof that the box is unopened."](https://detail.chiebukuro.yahoo.co.jp/qa/question%5Fdetail/q10332437740) Card Set singles buy back near list price, so they aren't worth paying over list.

**Don't open.** Leave boxes bought at market price sealed, along with any box a shop would pay close to ¥20,000 for. The only box to open is one you got at list price, and only if you've accepted the gap with selling it. The 20 packs, with different Pikachu holo art on every card, are fun enough to justify that. Just keep the fun separate from the math.

**Wait.** Wait on mid-tier SAR, FUR and AR cards. Wait too if you want the FUTURISTIC BOX at list price. The official site leaves open ["the possibility of it being carried at Pokémon Centers and Pokémon Stores nationwide at a later date."](https://www.30th.pokemon-card.com/product/furbox)

What follows is our editorial forecast, and it comes with no guarantee.

The restocks aren't over. [Yamada Denki's purchase deadline is November 14 to 20, 2026](https://torecamap.co.jp/column/celebration/) and [EDION announces its lottery winners on November 19](https://snkrdunk.com/articles/33304/), so another batch of lottery stock arrives in late November. On November 27 [the new set Hadou Seeker](https://snapholo.com/news/pokemon-tcg-aura-seeker-japanese-set-november-27-2026/) (often called Aura Seeker in English) comes out, and opening budgets will move there.

We expect the shrink-wrapped BOX buyback price to fall below its ¥17,000 release-day level before the year ends and to settle around ¥15,000\. The floor to watch is about ¥10,000, the average buyback value of one BOX's contents. Mid-tier SAR buyback prices should fall another 10% to 20% from here and bottom out early next year. RGB Mew should stay high, and Charizard and Lugia buyback prices should move around ¥14,000 to ¥16,000\. The split in the market will last until the restocks end.

This forecast is wrong if any of the following happens.

- Restocks stop before December. If scarcity returns, the box price stops falling.
- Mercari lifts its ban on sealed listings. Individuals could then sell sealed boxes, and fewer boxes would get opened.
- RGB Mew opening reports run above expectations. If the 1-in-154-boxes estimate breaks, both Mew prices and the box premium come down.
- Overseas buyers come for Japanese SARs that cost less than the English ones. That would bring the SAR bottom forward.

Back to the question we started with. If you have a box you can sell in its shrink wrap, sell it. There's probably no Mew in it.

## 30th Celebration restocks, lotteries and card list

**When are restocks, and where are the lotteries?** The official site gives no nationwide date. Store-by-store lotteries continue, and [SNKRDUNK's restock list](https://snkrdunk.com/articles/33304/) updates quickly. As of November 6, 2026, Yamashiroya, Shimamura Park, EDION, Toreca Capital and some Bic Camera stores, among others, are taking entries or plan to. Pokémon Center lotteries split into verified and unverified slots, and verification uses a My Number card.

**Where can I buy it?** At list price, the routes are Pokémon Center and big-box or card shop lotteries, plus convenience stores that get stock. The only official seller of the FUTURISTIC BOX is Pokémon Center Online. At market price, it's card shops and SNKRDUNK. Mercari bans sealed packs and BOXes and all 9 Card Sets (opened ones included), while opened singles can be listed. Some lotteries, like [GEO's](https://www.inside-games.jp/article/2026/09/28/188420.html), ban resale for 1 year after winning, so read the terms before you enter.

**What's the card list?** Numbers 1 to 103 are regular cards and RR, 104 to 123 are AR, 124 to 133 are SAR, 134 to 135 are FUR and 136 to 165 are 30th-style reprints, plus the 3 RGB Mews and 8 basic Energy cards. The full set is on the [card list](https://snapholo.com/en/pokemon/ja/30th-celebration/). The special-style reprints are [not legal in the current Standard format](https://www.30th.pokemon-card.com/product/m6a).

**What are the 30th Celebration decks?** The [Premium Deck Set](https://www.30th.pokemon-card.com/product/mf) has a 60-card Espeon ex deck and a 60-card Umbreon ex deck, so 2 people can play right out of the box. The SnapHolo reference price is [¥4,000](https://snapholo.com/en/pokemon/ja/30th-celebration-%E3%83%97%E3%83%AC%E3%83%9F%E3%82%A2%E3%83%A0%E3%83%87%E3%83%83%E3%82%AD%E3%82%BB%E3%83%83%E3%83%88-%E3%82%A8%E3%83%BC%E3%83%95%E3%82%A3-%E3%83%96%E3%83%A9%E3%83%83%E3%82%AD%E3%83%BC/espeon-ex-43/) for Espeon ex mf-043 and ¥14,800 for Umbreon ex mf-044.

**How much are the FUTURISTIC BOX Pikachu ex cards?** On Torecamap's prices, Pikachu ex (Day) sells at ¥31,490 and buys back at ¥23,750, and Pikachu ex (Night) sells at ¥25,540 and buys back at ¥18,180\. The ¥7,070 gap between the 2 cards' ¥41,930 buyback total and the box's ¥49,000 buyback price is what the supplies and the sealed state add.

**What are the Card Set contents worth?** Of the ¥1,200 list price, the 2 expansion packs account for ¥720 at list price. Singles buy back at ¥1,000 to ¥2,000, with Kanto, which has the Charmander promo, on the high side.

**When is the Pokémon 30th anniversary?** The games reached it on February 27, 2026, [counting from Red and Green's release on February 27, 1996](https://pocketmonsters.net/news/8870). The Pokémon Trading Card Game's date is [October 20, 2026](https://www.30th.pokemon-card.com/event/30thgym-02).

**How many 30th anniversary Pikachu cards are there?** The expansion pack holos come in 30 types, with Torecamap selling prices mostly around ¥200\. There are also 2 SAR Pikachu ex cards, 2 FUR-style cards in the FUTURISTIC BOX, and reprints of Pikachu and Pikachu & Zekrom GX.

**Does a BOX with an RGB Mew have different contents?** A Chiebukuro answer says it's [a separate slot added on top of the usual contents](https://detail.chiebukuro.yahoo.co.jp/qa/question%5Fdetail/q12332218602). That isn't an official explanation.

**How do I get the 30th Promo Card Pack?** It's a [Gym Battle participation prize](https://www.30th.pokemon-card.com/event/30thgym), handed out through January 31, 2027, while supplies last.

## Data notes and sources

- **SnapHolo reference price** is one reference value for one ungraded card. It's picked from the last 30 days of observations in the order of sold prices, market indicators and listings, and it's neither an average nor a median. The criteria are in our [price guide](https://snapholo.com/en/about/prices/). Most values are from November 5 to 6\. Korean edition values are mostly from November 2, and the Korean Mew R has been unchanged since October 8\. The Japanese Mew R was ¥1,050,000 on November 1, ¥710,000 on the 3rd and ¥1,000,000 on the 5th. With so few trades, one sale can move it a lot.
- **PSA** figures are SnapHolo's prices by grade: the median if there were 3 or more sales in the last 30 days, or the last sale if there were fewer than 3\. Grading fee math excludes shipping and insurance. Standard tier's declared value limit is ¥150,000, so the RGB Mews can't use it.
- **Buyback and shop selling prices** are from Torecamap (November 6). The 1-month comparison uses Card Rush buyback prices (published by Altema, November 6). These are defined differently from SnapHolo reference prices, so we didn't compare them. Declines since release day use the sum of Torecamap selling prices.
- **Conversions** use daily rates based on European Central Bank reference rates ($1 is about ¥158, ₩1 is about ¥0.118).
- **Pull rates** are Torecamap's reference figures, not official ones. RGB Mew opening reports are few, and Altema puts it at 1 per 120 to 200 BOXes. The simulation fixes each box at 1 SAR, 2 reprints, 4 AR and 5 RR, and counts Pikachu cards with no listed buyback price, Energy and commons at ¥0.
- **Excluded values** are the PSA 10 prices for Pikachu ex (Night) and Magikarp. They were nearly the same as ungraded and far from other graders' figures, so we left them out. FUTURISTIC BOX and Card Set promo values are Torecamap's.
- **The ¥19,999 deck set selling price** is a Yahoo! Shopping listing that appeared on Google Shopping on November 6.
- **Period** runs from the September 16, 2026 release day to November 6.
